Dr. Danielle Hiestand

Dr. Hiestand (MFT # 48529, formerly known as Dr. Beck-Ellsworth) has been providing therapeutic and educational services since 2006. After receiving her Bachelors of Science in Cognitive Science, Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of California, San Diego, she completed her doctorate in Marital and Family Therapy at Alliant International University, San Diego.

Dr. Hiestand has treated eating disorders, depression, anxiety and PTSD at all levels of care including residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient facilities. Dr. Hiestand helps clients with stress management, life transitions, identity exploration, and valued living. Her grounded presence creates a calm, safe place for clients to feel comfortable. Dr. Hiestand works collaboratively with clients and utilizes systems theory, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and eye-movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to successfully relieve clients of their suffering.

Dr. Hiestand is a clinical member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) and the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). She is recognized as a certified eating disorder specialist (CEDS) by iaedp and a certified EMDR therapist by EMDRIA.

Danielle's Dog In addition to providing therapeutic services Dr. Hiestand has been an adjunct professor at University of California, San Diego, Alliant International University and San Diego State University. Dr. Hiestand is an invited guest lecturer and can provide trainings and workshops on the topics of eating disorders or trauma.

In 2013 Dr. Hiestand and Kelly Hinds, RDN created Savor Podcast. For three years they recorded episodes on nutrition, body image, mindfulness, yoga, eating disorders, dieting, EMDR and beyond. Savor podcast is free and available on iTunes.

In her free time, Dr. Hiestand enjoys spending time with her family and hiking with her German Shepherd, Loki. She also loves swimming in the ocean, going to the movies, and photography.
